THE LITTLE PARIS BOOKSHOP

Monsieur Perdu owns a floating bookstore in a barge on the Seine. As a literary apothecary, he intuitively knows the book that  each reader needs. But his own heart is broken and to heal it, he barges to the South of France. Along the way, he meets many interesting characters and dispenses wisdom for the soul. A charming heartfelt book written by German author, Nina George, and translated into English. Enjoy!

Happy Year of the Rooster!

Featured above is a money envelope given as a gift for Chinese New Year by a dear friend!  I immediately put my gift into my Vacation Savings Fund. I love that it is the Year of the Rooster, the national symbol of France and French Gallic Pride!

It can be done!

Our son Daniel is living in Hong Kong without an oven. He told me only rich people own ovens. I guess that makes sense in terms of the foods eaten there. He loves banana bread, and I suggested he get a Crock Pot and make it in that. Of course, I had to try it myself.  It takes 4 hours, but it does work, and the banana bread tastes as good as the baked kind. Could also be useful on a very hot summer day if you can imagine one. I think I have owned this Crock Pot at least 30 years!

Inspiring Winter Quote

I chose this quote for my book MY LITTLE FRENCH VILLAGE, and it inspires me every day

"In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.

And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there's something stronger-something better, pushing right back."
                                                                                                          - Albert Camus

Escape to Paris

Enjoyable fiction with a French Twist. Genevieve returns to Paris to take over her late uncle's lock smith shop. There she unlocks her family's secret past. The author Julia Blackwell incorporates places familiar to those who have been to Paris and new places to discover.  Good winter hibernation reading with insight to French culture as well!

Snow Day Indoor Fun

Enjoyed baking Foccacia Bread with my sous chef Maggy. Is my Kitchen Aid Mixer unusually messy? It was snowing flour. Final result looks good! Taste Critic Bill said he liked the taste but prefers a flatter Foccacia, and I agree. If I ever find the lost recipe for the flatter one, I will make it tout de suite. Served the bread with a walnut spinach arugala salad and left over Shakshuka.
