Lolly Gives Her Second Public Interview with Q Magazine
Q:So Lolly, you are looking really good! About 5 months ago, Bill and Giselle adopted you.
L: Really? The time has flown by. I get excellent food and care. My coat has never felt softer.
Q:What can you tell us about your new owners?
L:Well, the Dude walks me every morning to Starbucks. Frankly, I find the ritual quite boring. In fact, a few weeks after arriving in Beaverton, I walked home from Starbucks by myself.
Q: What????
L: Well, you know how the Dude likes to read. The world could end, and he would not notice. So there I was bored as bored could be when I realized I could easily slip out of my harness. My nose told me exactly which way to go home. Someone alerted the Dude that I had escaped. Well, nobody could catch up with me though several people tried. I thought the Dude’s heart would stop. I could feel his panic even when he arrived home. He probably felt terrified at the idea of telling Giselle about my little adventure. I know the Dude loves me so much. He looks at me lovingly and recites “A house is not a home without a beagle.” I am pretty lucky I guess.
Q: You sure are. Tell me about Giselle.
L: She likes to call me “Little Mama” because the vet told her I birthed 4 or 5 litters.
Q: So you must be a great grandmother by now, Lolly. How does it feel to be done with all that?
L: Honestly, you would think it would be a relief, but I miss the warmth and softness of the puppies. Fortunately, my soft toys comfort me. I assemble them all in my apartment, which is my space under the coffee table in the living room. Sometimes, I throw them around for fun. They don’t mind at all.
Q: What else can you tell me about the Dude and Giselle?
L: The Dude keeps trying to make me a lap dog, but beagles just don’t do that. Giselle is more realistic. She loves me the way I am. Loud noises startle me. Giselle explains the origin of the noise and whether or not the noise could hurt me. She puts doggy peanut butter on a licking mat for me in the afternoons. She too is a Little Mama.” I know she misses her puppies, Michael and Daniel fiercely. Pity she only has two.
Q: What are your hopes for the future?
L: Giselle is teaching me to sit. I heard a professional trainer will be visiting me in a couple of weeks. I know the Dude and Giselle want me to learn a few commands and not pull so hard on the leash.
Q: I can tell you are a smart dog, Lolly. You will learn fast.
L: Thank you, and thank you for this interview. My tail wags so much here. I am very grateful for all the kind people I know in Oregon and for my new life.
